IGNOU Admission 2023 January Session: The Indira Gandhi National Open University has started taking new admissions for the January 2023 session, starting from 25th December 2021. Interested Students can register for the January session through the official website ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. The last date to apply for new admissions is 31st January 2023.

What is IGNOU?

IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) was established in 1985 with a view to make quality education accessible to all the potential students, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) invites applications for admission to various undergraduate and postgraduate degree/diploma programmes during January-June, 2023 session. The candidates can apply for the admission in the following programmes:

Undergraduate Programmes:

Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Commerce (B Com), Bachelor of Education (BEd)

Postgraduate Programmes:

Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc), Master of Commerce (MCOM), Master of Education (MEd), Diploma in Business Management, Diploma in Tourism & Hospitality Management, Diploma in International Trade & International Business, Certificate Course in Tourism & Hospitality Management, Certificate Course in International Trade & International Business.

The January 2023 session of the IGNOU Distance Education Program, there is no entrance exam for admission to these programmes. Details of the courses offered under this session are given below:

  1. Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) – 2 years
  2. Master of Business Administration (MBA) – 2 years
  3. Master of Computer Application (MCA) – 2 years
  4. Diploma in Technology Management (DTM) – 2 years

IGNOU January 2023 Admission Eligibilty

There are different eligibility criteria for IGNOU admission in various courses. Aspirants can check the eligibility criteria of their desired course on the official website of IGNOU i.e. ignou.ac.in before applying for the entrance exam. Candidates who have completed their class 12 from any recognized board will be able to take up IGNOU entrance exam for admission in various UG and PG courses offered by the university. Also, candidates with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline are eligible to apply for admission in PG courses offered by IGNOU.

Bachelor’s Degree Program: For BAG, B.ComG and B.ScG, one must have passed 10+2 with the relevant subjects from a recognized board.

Master’s degree courses – For MA, M.Com, and M.Sc, The student should have completed a Bachelors course from an accredited university

Diploma Programme: Students who have passed intermediate with 50% aggregate are eligible to apply. Graduates who are willing to join diploma programs can also apply.

Certificate Programme: Students must have passed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board.

M.Phil courses – Students must have a Master’s degree with a score of 55% (minimum for general) while SC/ST/OBC candidates must have 50%.

Ph.D. program: Students must have obtained a minimum of 55% marks in Masters or M.Phil degree. Also, IGNOU takes entrance examinations for admission to PhD programs.

Post-graduate diploma – The student should have finished the graduation course to proceed with the post-graduation diploma in the same stream.

Also, it is important to know that there are some special relaxation criteria for reserved category candidates like SC/ST/OBC/PWD etc. which vary as per course and category of the candidate. There can be age relaxation as well as percentage relaxation in qualifying examination or number of attempts or duration of study or maximum age limit or minimum age limit as specified by the university. Hence, it is advisable that candidates go through the eligibility criteria carefully before they start with the application procedure of IGNOU admission 2023.

IGNOU Admission Fee for Sc/ST

Fee Exemptionfor SC/ST Students under the SCSP and TSP Schemes:

The University provides exemption of programme fee to students from SC/ST category as per its policy. The policy is reviewed for every admission cycle. Students are advised to visit the University website or contact the Regional Centre to know about the latest provisions.
The SC and ST students who are employed or who are availing any kind of fellowship or fee exemption from other agencies are not eligible for fee exemption under SCSP/TSP scheme. The exemption of fee is confined to Programme Fee mentioned in this Admission Prospectus. The scheme will not exempt late fee (if any), term-end-exam fee, convocation fee etc.

  • Please click on the “Click Here For The New Registration” Button.
  • Lastly, click over the Register button.
  • Complete Registration process (which creates ‘User Name’ and ‘Password’ for you).
  • Your ‘User Name’ and ‘Password’ is informed through SMS and email.
  • Re-login to the system using your ‘User Name’ and ‘Password.’
  • Fill Admission Form online.
  • Upload your recent passport size Photograph (maximum size 100KB in JPG format).
  • Upload your specimen signature (maximum size 100KB in JPG format).
  • Upload scanned copies of the relevant documents (maximum size 200KB each document in JPG/PDF format).
  • Read the instruction and declaration carefully by clicking the ‘Declaration’ box.
  • Preview your data and confirm details.
  • Make payment of Fee through the Credit/Debit card/Net Banking.
  • Payment confirmation message is sent to you through SMS and email.
  • Press Next button to see the form preview.
  • After the final submission of online application form, your may download the filled in application form and keep a printout for your record.

Scanned image of a passport size photograph with white background. This is required for verification purposes. If you are unable to provide an image of a passport sized photograph due to any reason, you can attach a declaration acceptable to IGNOU and bring a copy of this declaration at the time of admission. The declaration will be retained by the Member Centre / Regional Centre / Study Centre where you will be admitted.

Fees and Refund Policy for IGNOU Admission 2023-24

A non-refundable Registration Fee of Rs. 200/- (unless specified otherwise) shall be charged along with the programme fee of first semester/year at the time of admission.

If a student applies for cancellation of admission and refund of fee, the refund request will be considered as per the University policy as under:

Before the last date for submission of admission form-the fee paid will be refunded after deduction of Rs.200/-
Within 15 days from the last date for submission of admission form-the fee paid will be refunded after deduction of Rs.500/-
Within 30 days from the last date for submission of admission form-the fee paid will be refunded after deduction of Rs.1,000/-.
After 30 days from the closure of the last date-No refund will be allowed.

Can I join two Programmes of IGNOU at a time?

Students who are already enrolled in a programme of one year or longer duration can also simultaneously register themselves for any Certificate programme of 6 months’ duration. However, if there is any clash of dates of counselling or examination schedule between the two programmes taken, the University will not be in a position to make adjustments. Simultaneously pursuing two academic Programmes of one year or longer duration either from the same University, or one from the Open University (under ODL mode) and the other from Conventional University (regular or face-to face mode) is not permitted, as of now.

Are the Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates offered by IGNOU recognized by UGC?

Yes, recognized by UGC.
IGNOU Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates are recognized by all member universities of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and are at par with Degrees/Diplomas/ Certificates of all Indian Universities/ Institutions.
